Also known as: PTR-91, PTR91, PTR GI, PTR GIR, PTR A3S

Overview

The PTR 91 is the flagship American-made roller-delayed blowback battle rifle from PTR Industries, a faithful semi-automatic clone of the Heckler & Koch G3/HK91 chambered in .308 Winchester (7.62x51mm). PTR builds the platform on the original H&K-pattern tooling and machinery acquired from Fabrica de Brao de Prata in Portugal (FMP), giving it genuine roller-locked heritage. The 18-inch stress-relieved, tapered barrel is threaded 5/8x24 for suppressors and muzzle devices, the stamped-steel receiver carries a welded steel Picatinny rail for optics, and the rifle uses the signature fluted chamber and drum diopter sights of the G3 family. Modern catalog configurations are sold under the GI, GIR, GIRK and A3S model names.

Background

PTR Industries (originally JLD Enterprises) was founded in 1997 and acquired genuine Heckler & Koch G3 tooling and gauges from the Portuguese state arsenal FMP, making the PTR 91 the most authentic American-built HK91/G3 clone available. When pre-ban HK91 prices soared after the 1989 import ban, PTR became the standard-bearer for the roller-delayed .308 platform in the United States.
