Also known as: P229 Legion, Legion P229

Overview

The SIG Sauer P229 Legion is the premium compact variant of the proven P229 platform, launched in 2015 as part of SIG Sauer's elite Legion series. Built on the same aluminum alloy frame and CNC-milled stainless steel slide as the standard P229, the Legion adds a comprehensive suite of factory upgrades designed with input from professional operators and competitive shooters. The centerpiece is the Grayguns P-SAIT (Precision Adjustable Short-reset Intermediate Trigger) combined with SIG's Short Reset Trigger kit, delivering a smooth double-action pull of approximately 10 lbs and a crisp single-action pull of approximately 4.4 lbs with a noticeably shorter reset. The entire pistol is coated in SIG's proprietary Elite Cerakote Legion gray finish for enhanced corrosion resistance and a distinctive matte appearance. Ergonomic enhancements include custom G-10 grips with a Legion medallion, an X-Five-style undercut trigger guard for a higher grip, enhanced front strap checkering, and a reduced-profile beavertail. The P229 Legion ships with three 15-round steel magazines, X-RAY3 high-visibility day/night sights with a 5.7-inch sight radius, a solid steel guide rod, and front cocking serrations. At 31.1 ounces unloaded, it maintains the compact dimensions that made the P229 a favorite among federal law enforcement while offering refinements that elevate it into the premium duty and carry pistol category.

Notes

The P229 Legion shares the same Legion-series enhancements as the full-size P226 Legion but in the more compact P229 form factor with a 3.9-inch barrel. The Grayguns trigger work, normally a $200+ aftermarket upgrade, is factory-installed on every Legion pistol. The DA trigger pull averages approximately 10 lbs (44 N) and the SA pull approximately 4.4 lbs (19.6 N), both smoother than the standard P229 trigger. Current production models are optic-ready and available in DA/SA and SAO configurations. The SAO variant features a flat trigger and manual safety. Unlike the base P229 which is available in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG, the Legion is primarily offered in 9mm. Manufacturing takes place at SIG Sauer's facility in Newington, New Hampshire. MSRP ranges from approximately $1,400-$1,700 depending on the specific configuration. Legion purchasers receive membership in the exclusive SIG Legion community with access to Legion-only products and events.

Background

The P229 Legion brings the same elite treatment to the compact P229 that transformed the full-size P226 into one of the most desirable production DA/SA pistols on the market. The Legion series was born from a survey of elite operators, law enforcement professionals, and competitive shooters who identified their most-wanted P-series upgrades. The result fuses the P229's proven compact duty heritage - trusted by the Secret Service and dozens of federal agencies - with the refined trigger, ergonomics, and finish that previously required expensive custom gunsmith work.
