Notes
The civilian P320-M17 variant differs from the true military M17 in several ways: it lacks the anti-tampering mechanism, uses a slightly different finish formulation, and has minor internal component variations. The military version uses a more durable corrosion-resistant coating optimized for harsh duty conditions. The M18 variant is identical in specifications except for a shorter 3.9-inch barrel and compact slide, though both use the same full-size grip frame. The 101st Airborne Division was the first U.S. Army unit to receive the M17 in October 2017. The P320 platform's modular design allows the fire control unit (the serialized firearm component) to be transferred between different grip modules, slides, and calibers, making it highly adaptable. Extended 21-round magazines are also standard issue with military M17s.
Background
The P320 M17 ended a 32-year reign of the Beretta M9 as the U.S. military sidearm. The 101st Airborne Division was the first Army unit to receive the M17 in October 2017. Its modular fire control unit is the only serialized component, meaning the entire gun can be reconfigured around it like building blocks.
