Notes
Eugene Stoner joined Knight's Armament Company in 1990 to develop the SR-25, which became one of the first successful semi-automatic sniper rifles to achieve sub-MOA accuracy. The original SR-25 Match Rifle featured a 24-inch heavy barrel, while the current E2 series offers 20-inch (APR) and 16-inch (APC) barrel options with improved E2 bolt carriers. The Mk 11 Mod 0 was the first semi-auto sniper rifle officially adopted by U.S. Special Operations. During the Iraq War, the USMC acquired the Mk 11 Mod 1 variant. The SR-25 K5 and K7 variants feature 14.5-inch barrels for more compact configurations, with the K7 chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. The rifle saw extensive combat use in Afghanistan, Iraq, East Timor, and the Gaza Strip.
Background
The '25' in SR-25 refers to the combination of the AR-10 and AR-15 designs (10+15=25). Eugene Stoner joined Knight's Armament at age 67 to create the rifle, and the Mk 11 Mod 0 became the first semi-automatic sniper rifle officially adopted by U.S. Special Operations Command.
