Overview

The Taurus TX9 Compact is the mid-size variant of Taurus' duty-grade TX9 striker-fired pistol platform, introduced in 2025. Featuring a 4.0-inch alloy steel barrel with gas nitride finish and a 15+1 capacity, the Compact balances shootability with concealability for everyday carry and off-duty law enforcement use. Built on the Taurus Modular System, the TX9 Compact shares a serialized modular chassis with the full-size and subcompact variants, allowing users to swap frame sizes while retaining the same serialized fire control unit. The pistol is optics-ready via the Taurus T.O.R.O. (Taurus Optic Ready Option) system and uses industry-standard dovetails for its iron sights, accepting many aftermarket options. The stainless steel frame and gas nitride-finished alloy steel slide provide corrosion resistance and durability. Four interchangeable backstraps allow shooters to customize grip fit. The trigger features a 6.5-pound pull weight with a short, tactile reset. Overall length is 7.19 inches (183mm) with a height of 5.16 inches (131mm) and width of 1.28 inches (33mm), weighing 23.7 ounces (672g) empty. Manufactured at Taurus' Bainbridge, Georgia facility.

The TX9 Compact shares the same barrel length as the full-size model (4.0 inches vs 4.5 inches for the full-size) but uses a shorter grip that reduces height and accommodates 15-round magazines instead of the full-size 17-round magazines. The compact frame dimensions place it in direct competition with the Glock 19, SIG Sauer P320 Compact, and Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 Compact. The modular chassis system means the compact grip module can be swapped onto any TX9 fire control unit. Muzzle velocity is slightly reduced compared to the full-size due to the identical barrel length being paired with a shorter sight radius. The TX9 Compact accepts full-size TX9 17-round magazines as well, providing a capacity upgrade option. The Glock-pattern rear sight dovetail allows direct compatibility with a wide range of aftermarket sights.

Background

The TX9 Compact represents the sweet spot of Taurus' ambitious entry into the duty-grade pistol market. While the full-size TX9 targets duty holsters and range use, the Compact was designed to bridge the gap between full-size service pistols and concealed carry, following the same market logic that made the Glock 19 the world's most popular pistol size class. The modular chassis approach allows agencies to issue a single serialized unit that officers can configure for on-duty or off-duty carry by simply swapping grip modules.
