Weatherby Mark V Backcountry
Weatherby, Inc. · Rifle · Discontinued · 2018
Also known as: Mark V Backcountry, Weatherby Backcountry
Overview
The Weatherby Mark V Backcountry is a lightweight bolt-action mountain hunting rifle chambered in .300 Weatherby Magnum, built on the six-lug Mark V Magnum action with a 54-degree bolt throw for fast cycling under large scopes. It pairs a fluted stainless steel barrel finished in McMillan Tan Cerakote with a slim carbon fiber stock, an Accubrake ST muzzle brake that cuts felt recoil by up to 53 percent, and a 3DHEX recoil reducer in the buttstock to tame the hard-hitting .300 Weatherby cartridge. A factory-set TriggerTech trigger and Weatherby's sub-MOA accuracy guarantee make it a backcountry hunting rifle engineered to be carried far and shoot precisely on large game at extended range.

Notes
The Backcountry line was Weatherby's lightweight mountain-rifle answer, trimming weight versus the heavier Accumark while keeping the Mark V action. In the magnum .300 Weatherby chambering the rifle uses a 26-inch barrel and weighs roughly 6.7 pounds. The lighter 6-lug Mark V Magnum action is standard on belted-magnum chamberings. This original Backcountry was later superseded by the Backcountry 2.0, Backcountry 2.0 Ti, and Backcountry Capra models. Weatherby relocated manufacturing from Paso Robles, California to Sheridan, Wyoming in 2019.
Background
Roy Weatherby built his company on the conviction that speed kills, and the Backcountry carried that philosophy up the mountain: a sub-seven-pound rifle still firing the 1944-vintage .300 Weatherby Magnum, a cartridge that outruns most competitors by 200 to 300 feet per second.
