Also known as: P226 Legion, Legion P226

Overview

The SIG Sauer P226 Legion is the premium-tier variant of the venerable P226, introduced in 2015 as the flagship of SIG Sauer's Legion series. Built directly from input by elite professional operators and competitive shooters, the Legion features a comprehensive package of enhancements over the standard P226. The pistol retains the proven aluminum alloy frame and stainless steel slide of the original P226 in a DA/SA locked-breech, short-recoil design, but adds a Grayguns P-SAIT enhanced trigger with SIG's Short Reset Trigger (SRT) for a smoother, crisper break and shorter reset. The slide and frame are finished in SIG's proprietary Elite Cerakote Legion gray coating for enhanced durability and corrosion resistance. Ergonomic improvements include custom G-10 grips with a Legion medallion, enhanced front strap and under-trigger-guard checkering, an X-Five undercut trigger guard for a higher grip, and a reduced-profile beavertail. The Legion ships with three 15-round steel magazines, SIG Sauer Electro-Optics X-RAY high-visibility day/night sights, a solid steel guide rod, and front cocking serrations. At 33 ounces (DA/SA model), it maintains the P226's balance and shootability while offering refinements that make it one of the most desirable production DA/SA pistols available.

Notes

The Legion series was SIG Sauer's answer to demand from professional users and enthusiasts who wanted a factory-upgraded P226 without resorting to aftermarket modifications. The Grayguns trigger work, normally a $200+ aftermarket upgrade, comes standard on every Legion. The DA trigger pull measures approximately 10 lbs (44 N) and the SA pull approximately 4-4.5 lbs (18-20 N), both notably smoother than the standard P226 trigger. The SAO (Single Action Only) variant features a flat trigger and manual safety, with a trigger pull of approximately 5 lbs (22 N). The P226 Legion is manufactured at SIG Sauer's Newington, New Hampshire facility. Unlike the standard P226 which is available in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG, the current Legion is primarily offered in 9mm only. The X-Legion, XFIVE Legion, and XCARRY Legion sub-variants represent further evolution with modular grip systems and different barrel lengths. MSRP ranges from approximately $1,500-$1,800 depending on the specific variant.

Background

The Legion series was born when SIG Sauer surveyed elite military operators, law enforcement professionals, and top competitive shooters for their P226 wish list. The result was a factory pistol that incorporated the most popular aftermarket upgrades, including the highly regarded Grayguns trigger work, into a cohesive premium package. Purchasing a Legion pistol also grants membership in the exclusive SIG Legion community with access to Legion-only products and events.
